TMG leads IGAD regional spectrum management validation and training workshop

As part of the project to develop a Regional Spectrum Management Strategy for the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Member States, Telecommunications Management Group, Inc. (TMG) facilitated a four-day validation and training workshop with delegations from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda. Mr. Daniel Leza, Vice President, and Mr. Camilo Zamora, Senior Technical and Regulatory Advisor, of TMG led the sessions which took place between December 8-11, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The workshop was intended to (1) validate the structure, content, and recommendations included in IGAD’s draft Regional Spectrum Strategy, and (2) provide capacity building on key spectrum management principles and associated software tools. At the conclusion of the four-day workshop, representatives from IGAD Member States:

• Approved a revised IGAD Regional Spectrum Management Strategy and reached agreement on the need to create an IGAD Spectrum Management Working Group to implement the strategy;
• Received training on key spectrum management trends, cross-border spectrum coordination agreements, and joint monitoring campaigns; and
• Undertook live simulations to assess cross-border interference among different radiocommunication stations.
