Innovative Business Models for Expanding Fiber-Optic Networks and Closing the Access Gaps

The World Bank has published “Innovative Business Models for Expanding Fiber-Optic Networks and Closing the Access Gaps,” a report written by TMG and Salience Consulting reviewing and providing guidance on innovative business models and approaches to the deployment of high-speed broadband networks and highlighting global trends related to terrestrial spectrum resources that can be leveraged to meet expected future demand and close existing Internet access gaps.

The 206-page report is intended to serve as a reference tool to help policy makers and regulators in World Bank client countries assess alternatives for infrastructure deployment and adopt decisions tailored to their country’s circumstances and needs. The report includes chapters addressing facilitation of broadband development, business models for infrastructure deployment, cross-border and national fiber-optic network business models, middle mile business models and technologies, and cross-sector infrastructure sharing, as well as a series of recommendations.
